Meet the Interns!

January 31, 2010

Time to meet my two lovely side-kicks – Lane & Michelle!  They’re currently interning with me, and will be assisting during the 2010 wedding season.  They’re both SUCH great gals, and I’m stoked to finally introduce them officially on the blog!

First up, meet LANE!

One of the most important traits in photography is having a great personality.  Back during the internship process, Lane came along with me to a wedding to get her toes wet, and impressed me with her willingness to help out where she could, making everyone feel comfortable around her, and overall positive attitude.  She has a great artistic perspective, works super hard to learn everything she can, and I know is going to do awesome things both this year & in the future.

PS – Lane just got engaged over the holidays!  CONGRATS!  Sooo excited for you!

Here’s Lane’s answers to the kinda-lame “get-to-know-you” questions I made her answer for this blog :)

1.  You find $1000 on the street, no one claims it.  How do you spend it?
Save a lot, give away some and spend a little (probably on clothes…from Anthropologie. I’m a sucker like that.)

2.  Name 3 things you’re passionate about.
My family and friends, gymnastics, grammar (I know…) and ice cream. That’s four. Oh, and photography. Five. :)

3.  Favorite food.
Green olives and ice cream. But not together.

4.  Favorite movie.
Father of the Bride (1 and 2) and A Beautiful Mind. The best of all worlds.

5.  Random fact about you.
I can touch my tongue to my nose.

6.  Why do you love photography?
I love the creativity. I love knowing that there’s not a right way to do things; there’s not a right color or pose or angle. I love that five people can see the same scene and do something different with it. I love writing for the same reasons, but I think I’m a visual person, so photography appeals to me that much more.

7.  What do you spend your free time doing?
Driving.  I work in Oxford and my fiance lives in Dayton…and I live in Cincy. But for fun, I love stepping outside my box and experiencing new things, places and people. I also like reading.

8.  Favorite vacation spot & why.
Oh man, I love to travel. I love the beach but my favorite spots are not necessarily warm. The energy of Chicago is contagious. The sites and sounds of Paris, France are addicting. And the culture of Jerusalem is to die for. I could go on and on. Give me a vacation over a nice car or house any day!

Next up: MICHELLE!

The first thing I noticed about Michelle was her laugh.  Actually, her giggle.  I first met her as a client – Her now husband (fiance at the time) is an old friend of mine & I photographed their engagement session in 2008.  It was the first time I had met Michelle, and was anxious to see who had swept my friend Devin off his feet.  It was SO MUCH FUN to watch them during that session… totally into each other, madly in love… and Michelle giggling the whole time.  She was just so endearing!  She asked me lots of questions about photography that day, as she always had an interest and hobby there.  I was stoked when she applied for the internship & know that her compassionate heart, giggly personality & creative eye will take her far this year!

PS – Michelle is having a BABY!  :)   Little Joah will be here in just a matter of weeks… I can’t wait to meet him!

1. You find $1000 on the street, no one claims it.  How do you spend it?
As a saver I would probably put some of the money away in an account.  Then I would use the rest to go on a mini-vacation to Ceder Point with my husband ;-)

2.  Name 3 things you’re passionate about.
God, my amazing husband, and singing.

3.  Favorite food.
I love Mexican food!!  A chicken, rice , salsa, guacamole, black bean, cheese burrito is amazing!!!

4.  Favorite movie.
I love romantic comedies, one of my favorites is While You Were Sleeping, which I watch every year in the winter.

5.  Random fact about you.
I lived in Croatia for one year, right after I finished college.

6.  Why do you love photography?
I love photography because it makes me come alive.  I enjoy the artistic nature of photography; being able to see beauty and capture the image though different perspectives.

7.  What do you spend your free time doing?
I spend almost all of my free time with my husband, just hanging out, going to the movies, going on a walk, or writing… Although I think with our baby on the way our free time will become even more valuable.

8.  Favorite vacation spot & why.
This is a good one!   I love camping at Lake Almanor in CA; it is great being able to go running along a path filled with the scent of pine trees and then just relax in the sun next to the lake. I also love sitting around the campfire at night and looking up into the night sky, which is full of beautiful stars!

When I first met up with Luke and his parents last weekend, his mom told me that he had just been singing “Halo” (by Beyonce) in the car on the way to the shoot.  I knew then that I would like this little dude.

Luke is a bright, active, adorable, Beyonce-lovin’ 3 year old (as they all should be, right?!) :)    I had so much fun shooting these photos of him, and adding in his great parents, Krista & Greg for a few!

Here’s a sneak peek!

New Blog!

January 14, 2010

If you’re reading this post, then you found my new blog!  I’m excited to have a new spot on the web that I think will be much more user friendly than the previous blog I had.  Comments should be much easier to leave here (so please, leave some!  I don’t want to feel like I’m talking to myself!    as well as some other general functions that I didn’t have before (a search bar, looking at posts by category,  etc…).   So look around & see what ‘cha think!

All of my old blog posts have been imported here, so you can still scroll back & see posts before today.

…and because every post is better with a photo, here’s one of my favorite subject – my son, Noah.  This is from a few weeks ago, but he’s so adorable it’s worth sharing!  (One other thing I’ll love about this new blog…. BIG photos!  Check out the difference in size between this one & some from the old blog posts below…)

Last weekend I sweet-talked Charity & Jason into allowing me to shoot a mock-engagement session with them. Okay, so actually no sweet talking was involved, but they were kind enough to brave the cold! Charity & Jason have been married 14 years (right, guys?) but had no problem at all acting as if they were newly in love… I’m pretty sure no acting was required for them.

This session was set up for a little practice shoot with my super awesome interns, Lane & Michelle… Stay tuned for a post in the upcoming weeks to learn more about who they are & see a little bit of their work!

Here’s a few from my POV during our quick time in the bitter cold… Thanks again, C&J for being such troopers!

Charity = Hot. ‘Nuff said.

Trevor – Model/Actor

January 6, 2010

My good friend Trevor who lives in LA came through town during a visit & had dinner with us & his girlfriend, Pam. It was so great to get to see him & we had to (of course) go outside to take a few shots. It was COLD (note the snow) so we were only out for about 10 minutes, but was fun none the less!

Trevor & I have been friends over 10 years now (We’re getting old, Trev!) and I’m so proud of his hard work in Hollywood! I’m used to seeing him with long hair, so it’s still weird for me to get used to the short ‘do, but he recently had to cut it off for a movie he was working on. (He is Paul Bettany’s stand-in in the upcoming movie, Priest, which finished production right before he came here to visit). I talked to him yesterday & he was on the set of some other movie that’s in production with Steve Carell. It’s always fun to hear the scoop from an “insider” on so many of my favorite tv shows & movies that he has been on! What an awesome job to have!

Anyways, here’s just a couple from our 10 minutes outside in the cold! Can’t wait to do a REAL shoot eventually with him… Preferably in LA! :) (Ah… beach!
